About

I operate CoreSelf Counseling & Coaching under the premise that each individual possesses the ability to relate to themselves and others with a sense of confidence, calmness, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness. Internal Family Systems (IFS) calls these traits “the 8 Cs,” which exist within our “core Self” or “larger Self.” See: "Evolution of The Internal Family Systems Model By Dr. Richard Schwartz, Ph. D” . Although the core Self is inherent to each individual and does not need to be cultivated, the practice of accessing and living through the core Self often requires enhancement.

I first stumbled upon IFS as an associate counselor in supervision as I worked toward independent licensure. In spite of IFS already being an evidence-based therapeutic method, I initially dismissed it as what many clinicians refer to as “woo-woo.”

Through the process of my personal work, I came to recognize inner child work and “parts work,” such as IFS, as one of the most effective and authentic ways to pursue healing. Since then, I’ve had the humbling privilege of completing all levels of IFS training through the official IFS Institute. IFS is the foundation of my practice, and I am currently in the process of completing the requirements to become certified (expected September 2024).

Through the lens of IFS, I developed an appreciation for Relational Life Therapy (RLT). Currently, I am pursuing my RLT certification through the RLT Institute. Additionally, I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Unyte’s Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), based on the polyvagal theory. I have found that  RLT, ART, and SSP can be wonderful assets to IFS, as well as independently effective.

In my office you’ll find an array of plants (some thriving, and some…at times…less than thriving), guidance, compassion, humor, and the space to find and connect within yourself. My doors are open to any individual 18 and older. All races, genders, religious affiliations, and sexual orientations are welcome. Although I do not work with couples, I do offer coaching for the platonic, dyadic relationship (siblings, roommates, colleagues, teammates, etc). As a former collegiate and professional athlete, I also have a passion for working with athletes, teams, and performance issues. Additionally, I connect well with those who value spirituality and seek to explore this part of themselves further and/or work through trauma from religious settings. Overall, I generally work well with any individual who desires to pursue to health.

I am grateful for the ways that IFS & RLT have shaped my life and I am honored to have the privilege of passing it on to you. If inner child work, or any other offered modality appeals to you, I encourage you to reach out.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
